$6.75 Million Victory for 5Pointz Artists

On the night of 11/19/13, the walls of aerosol art mecca 5Pointz were clandestinely whitewashed by the owner of the buildings, Jerry Wolkoff. The act set off a maelstrom of outrage, resulting in the filing of a lawsuit on behalf of the artists who had been painting the walls legally for two decades. On Thursday, 2/20, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, one of the most influential appellate courts in the US, upheld a decision made by a lower court in 2018 to award $6.75 million to the plaintiffs in the lawsuit.
